Boat fire extinguishers are many in number....How do you know which to
pick? Several of our tenants at All Seasons Storage have been asking our managers if they knew the regulations in regards to the fire extinguishers for boats. Since we did not, we have done some research and this is what we have found:
- Who Must Carry a Fire Extinguisher? All motorboats are required to with the exceptions of outboard motorboats less than 26' in length, who do not carry passengers for hire, without permanently installed fuel tanks and which do not have spaces where explosive or flammable fumes can collect.
- What size extinguisher do I need? The size and number of fire extinguishers required for motorboats depends on the size of the boat and whether or not there is a fixed extinguishing system installed aboard the boat. Extinguishers are classified as a B-1 or B-11 (Coast Guard classification system) or 5-B-C and higher (Underwriters Laboratiories classification). A B-11 is equivalent to a 10-B-C extinguisher.
-
| Boat length |
Without fixed extinguisher |
With fixed system |
| Less than 26' |
One B-1extinguisher |
None |
| 26' - 40' |
Two B-1 or One B-11 |
2 B-1 or 1 B-11
|
- Which extinguishers are approved for marine use? An extinguisher
is suitable for marine use when, in addition to any other markings, the extinguisher bears either:
1. A label identifying the extinguisher as listed with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and of a type of either Dry Chemical,
Carbon Dioxide or Halon. UL listed extinguishers for marine use must bear a UL rating of 5-B:C or higher....or
2. A label of recognized testing laboratory that indicates the extinguisher is Coast Guard approved or specifies "Marine Type United States Coast Guard"

Park Moabi....We have several new tenants at All Seasons Storage and so we thought that we would introduce them to several places that are near Needles! Park Moabi is one of the best places to stay and it is located just 11 miles southeast of Needles....right on the River! There are actually two different types of facilities to stay at in Park Moabi. The original site is the Moabi Regional Park and just recently, Pirates Cove was built in Park Moabi. This article will tell a little about both places!
- How do you get there? There are two options....launch your boat at Needles Marina or Jack Smith Park and head south on the river about 11 miles. The second option is to drive to it. It is located right off of Highway 40 approximately 11 miles southeast of Needles.
- What can I do there? The options are endless! Pirates Cove offers
gorgoeus cabins to rent, RV sites and a restaurant! The Park Moabi Regional Park has RV hook ups, riverside campgrounds, a marina, swimming, boating, softball, volleyball, horseshoe pits, fire rings...you name it!
- Do I need to bring my own boat? The Park Moabi Park has a boat launch, gas dock and slip rentals for your boat. However, they also can arrange for power boat, canoe and kayak rentals!
- Can I fish there? You betcha! Moabi provides ideal fishing conditions
for black and striped bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish and trout. Through a multiagency fishery enhancement program, artificial habitat is being developed to increase the game fish population and additional shore access is being constructed for fishermen around the river! They even have a bait shop there!
Park Moabi is definitely worth exploring! If you have been there, let us know your comments! And you might also want to read our blog on Pirate's Cove....an amazing place!

Long Term Self Storage Users compiled the following New Year's
Resolutions:
#10 - I will visit my storage unit....clean it up and re-organize it so that I can get more stuff into it! And the items I don't want anymore, I will take to a charity and donate! Charitable idea and great tax write off!
#9 - I will pay the rent for my storage unit on time...avoid the late fees and use the money that I saved (from avoiding the late fees)to go shopping with! Or to rent a larger unit!
#8 - I will go to my storage facility and ask the manager if I can update the information on my contract (i.e. my phone numbers, address and alternate info)...After paying for this unit for so long, I never want them to lose contact with me and have my items go to auction!
#7 - I will buy a new lock for my storage unit to replace my old lock....I can't remember how many people I have given the key to my unit to....And getting a disc lock would probably be better anyway! I keep thinking of the old adage...better to be safe than sorry!
#6 - I will seriously look into obtaining some storage insurance....I remember the manager telling me that it is my responsibility (and not the facility's) to insure my storage items....I think the manager said I could go here to find out more information about storage insurance....
#5 - I will call Mom (who is in her late 80's) and make sure that she has a will and/or trust. I know that she has a storage unit and so I think I will take her to the storage facility and talk with the manager as to the best way to handle the paperwork just in case something happens to Mom....I think that would probably prevent a lot of headaches!
#4 - I will call the storage facility to make sure they have a current copy of my insurance and registration for my boat and RV. I switched lenders last November and I don't think that I notified them....
#3 - I will surprise my kid who is away at college....I'll rent a unit, clean
out his/her bedroom of all of the unnecessary items and put them in the unit...They'll have a clean bedroom to come home to and I will have a nice room to have guests stay in! (And when they return from school, I will take them to the facility and put their name on the contract for the unit!)
#2 - I will rent a unit....clean out my garage and move items into the unit. I will then wash my car and will now be able to store it in the garage! Thiink of the money I will save by not having to go to the carwash as frequently! And my house will look so much better without my car sitting in the driveway! Oh, the neighbors will love me!
And the #1 resolution of long term self storage users is......
I will visit my storage units....Go to the manager's office and ask if I can consolidate my two units into one! I just found out that one large unit is usually less expensive than 2 smaller units! And the money I would save would allow me to go shopping so that I could get more stuff to fill up my new unit!
Happy New Year's Everyone!

Storage questions....we all must store our "stuff" at some point in our lives and when we do, the questions start appearing. Hopefully this short article can answer those questions for you! To begin with, it is very important to actually go to the facility, before you rent a spot from their website, and actually inspect the facility! Here is what to look for when you are inspecting it:
- Perimeter fencing - Some facilities have walls and others have chain link fences. There is a reason for the "unsightly" chain link fences and that is because it deters burglars! Ninety five percent of our facility can be seen from the street thus allowing for the police to patrol easily when they do their "drive bys". Not many burglars like to work in the public eye! The facility is protected with a fence but is open for viewing...very important!
- Surveillance Cameras - A must! When you are inspecting the facility, ask to see the camera placement. Make sure that the unit you will be renting is in the camera's view!
- On Site Managers - A great safety factor for you and your "stuff"! The managers who live on premises are constantly walking around at random times. This makes it difficult for intruders to "plan" their break ins!
There are also things that you can do to protect your valuable items such as:
- Buy a good lock! The disc locks are nearly impossible to cut....they
must be drilled and that makes a lot of noise! Very seldom does some one try to break into a unit that has a disc lock! Read about the types of locks here!
- Store your valuable items in the back of the storage unit! Time is of the essence when one is trying to break in.....usually the burglar does not have the time to get to the back of the unit!
- Take out storage insurance! If you read your contract, the facility is not responsible for your items. Storage insurance is very inexpensive...read about what it entails and the different companies available to purchase it from here!

Organize Christmas with lists, and some other of my thoughts about how to make your life a little more stress free this Christmas.
Lists! lists are a great way to organize Christmas and could help save you time and money! Lists can help with menus, grocery shopping, gift shopping and so many other ways I can't think of all of them right now.
My daughter in-law came up with a great idea to help organize your meal preparation. She put sticky notes on all of the dish's so I could help without constantly asking her. The sticky note's had what was to go into the dish when it needed to go into the oven and how long it was to be in the oven. The sticky notes also helped us remember everything so we did not sit down to eat and go where are the rolls! Ever do that? Ha Ha.
Cleaning up after that wonderful meal we had way to many leftovers! To save room we
used a lot of baggies instead of dishes that take up to much room in the refrigerator. Everyone got little goody bags of food to take home for their next meal or snack. Oh did I mention food can be warmed up in some bags by putting them in boiling water! They worked 0ut so well I just had to share. Baggies can also be used for Christmas ornaments!
A great time to get organized and declutter is the day you take down your home's Holiday bling. At the start of a New Year, evaluate all of your holiday decorations. Consider donating or selling anything you didn't use this year. Store everything that you use and love in a organized manner so decorating next year will be a snap.
Keep an ornaments original box if it increases the ornaments value or provides exceptional protection. Other wise ditch it and choose a box or bin that holds multiple ornaments. If you don't have room to store your holiday decorations you can always rent a store unit from All Seasons Storage!
One other thought! Have you ever considered sending your Christmans card via e-mail? Here is a link for free Christmas eCard www.myfuncards. Choose from hundreds of Christmas eCards and send as many as you want. I have not tried this yet but I have received several and they are wonderful!
From all of us at All Seasons Storage Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Ahoy Mates! Pirates Den Parker Arizona has opened the gangplank and is now serving thirsty pirates! My husband and I were golfing at Emerald Canyon (the best golf course ever) and noticed that the parking lot to Pirates Den was busy. We decided it was time for a beer and so we stopped in to check it out....great place!
The Thirsty Pirate's bar is very similar to the one at Pirates Cove...you can either sit inside or outside on gorgeous white sand. Boats can simply pull up to the dock and the mates can walk right into the bar area (this is something Needles needs!). Presently, the bar is serving a limited menu because the restaurant is not open yet. They do have a great happy hour going with tacos at $1, beers are $1 and wine is $2! The restaurant is to open in February and it too is sitting right on the river....Great views!
The RV part is open also and this may be the nicest RV resort in Parker! The waterfront spaces either come with a small white sandy beach or a private cabana which sits right on the water! It is like a floating dock with a roof....perfect to enjoy the river! Rates for the RV spots vary....The waterfront spaces with the cabanas rent for $60/night (waterfront without a cabana is $55) and the back rows rent for $40/night. Weekly rentals are calculated at six nights with the seventh night at no extra charge thus a waterfront space with a cabana would rent for $360/week. This RV resort in Parker also has long term monthly rates. Snowbirds get a bargain! Winter monthly rates (10/2-3/31) are the same whether you have a cabana or not...$495/month. The waterfront spaces with cabanas rent for $545 during 4/1 - 10/1 however the spaces on the river without a cabana remain at $495/month.
The owners have done a great job so far with maintaining the theme throughout the park. They have appeared to have invested a lot of money in this project and hopefully they will be able to re-fill their treasure chests soon! I couldn't find a website for them but you can click here and see their Facebook page. Definitely worth checking out!
We apologize for the picture and lack of other pictures.....the camera and computer were not cooperating.....it is a beautiful resort!

Decorating A Boat! Would you like to decorate your boat for a Christmas Boat Parade? Here are some ideas on how to do just that. With the reflection on the water, Christmas lights have quite an added sparkle.
- Make a decorating plan for your boat. Decide if there is enough room for a Christmas tree; make sure it doesn't block the captains' view so he can safely navigate. Decide if you can use plug in lights or if you need battery operated lights. Decide on the type of decorations you want to use. Keep in mind that the decorations need to be visible from the shore. Small decorations are difficult to see.
- Buy only decorations and Christmas lights that are rated for outdoor use. If you are using battery-operated lights, make sure you have plenty of batteries on hand. Be sure to check each string of lights before you hang them. Remember that both sides of the boat will be seen if you are making a circle during the boat parade. The Christmas tree or Santa Claus on a sleigh should be placed high on the boat and in the center, where it can be seen from both sides.
- Use rope lights whenever possible on your boat. Rope lights are easier
to string and won't get caught on netting or small items. use bright colored or white lights because the lights will be the background for the rest of your decorations. People watching the boat parade are usually far away and can only see decorations that are brightly lit.
- Decorate with two or three color
combinations only. If you use too many colors, the whole boat will become overwhelming to the spectators because of the reflection on the water. Place a few more strings of lights to outline the shape of your boat, and the whole decorating scheme will become clear to those viewing the Christmas boat parade. And have fun!
Don't miss the Lake Havasu, AZ Parade of Lights! For the past 29 years the Annual Boat Parade of Lights has been the must-see event of the holiday season. Up to 50 boats dressed-up in their holiday best! December 2nd -3rd 6:00 PM.
