Self Storage in Needles CA - Tips for Rookies!

Storage facility Needles Ca - All Seasons Storage
Did you just rent a storage unit and now are panicked about fitting all of your personal belongings in it?  Well, read the following info and I promise that your unit will not end up like this....I promise!                            storage facility needles ca

  • If pallets are available, use them!  They keep things off of the floor and Mother Nature or human mistakes can be a challenge to the best of facilities!storage facility needles ca
  •  Leave an aisle in the center of your unit so that you have a walkway to the back of the unit.
  • If you are storing a lot of boxes, try to fill each box to the top, even if it is just with padding &/or paper.  Boxes onlystorage facility needles capartially filled have a tendency to collapse.
  • Try to pack boxes that are uniform in size.  Put heaviest on the bottom.  Rubbermaid boxes are the best because of their sturdiness and uniform size.
  • Label boxes on all six sides with a number.  On a sheet of paper, list all items located within the box.  After packing all of the boxes, place a copy of the itemized list at the front of the storage unit (in a safe place where only you know where it is) and keep another copy of the list outside of the unit.  This will save you time if you have to look for something.
  • Place your most valuable items in the back of the unit.
  • Store frequently used items in the front of the unit.
  •  When storing items with combustible engines (i.e. lawn mowers/motorcycles), drain all fluids prior to storage in order to avoid corrosive damage and to prevent combustion.  Fuel is one of the few things you CANNOT store in a self storage facility.
  • Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes!  Or bundle them together with tape.  Don't store a broom resting on its' bristles!
  • Cover mattresses (covers available in hardware stores) and store them flat on level surfaces.  They are best stored on the long end and should be on a pallet or protective shelving.
  • Store pots/pans in large appliances (i.e. stoves/ refrigerators).
  • Break down items (i.e. tables' legs) and store large furniture (like sofas and tables) on end.
  • Wax/oil your wooden furniture really good and then use blankets, etc to protect the surfaces.
  • Treat leather items with a leather conditioner before you store them.storage facility needles ca
  • Store mirrors and painting on end, not flat!  Wrap in bubble wrap or boxes and mark them fragile.
  • When wrapping collectibles or breakable objects, tape it after you wrap it.  This should avoid mistaking them for "filler" or excess paper.  Use bubble wrap or plain paper.  Newspaper will leave print!
  • Pack books flat to avoid damage to the spine.
  • Chairs can be packed seat to seat.  Wrap the legs for extra protection.
  • Think creatively & you'll make more space.  Use furniture drawers as an extra box for fragile items. Or use the inside of kitchen appliances.
  • Place mothballs inside the boxes where you store clothes.
  • Empty the vacuum cleaner bag before storing the vacuum.
  • If you are warned about the atmosphere/environment in the unit, put down moisture absorbers, deodorizers and vermin bait.  The facilities try their best but they can't guarantee anything!
FINALLY.......PLEASE DON'T DO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Do not assume that your renter's or homeowners insurance will cover your belongings in storage.  Call them first.  If the answer is no, take out self storage insurance.  It is very inexpensive.
  • To avoid unwanted visitors to your unit, do no store food!
  • Please don't pack your boxes too heavy....especially when packing books.
  • Do not store paint, oil, gasoline or any flammables &/or toxins!
  •  Do not forget to clean appliances (i.e. stove/refrig) before storing them!  Leave the refrig door open to prevent mildew!
  • Andstorage facility needles ca finally, don't pack your best friend!
If you have any other suggestions or handy dandy tricks....let us know!
Our tenants would greatly appreciate it!
